Sean Connery (born Thomas Sean Connery; 25 August 1930 – 31 October 2020) was a Scottish actor and producer who won an Academy Award, two BAFTA Awards (one of which was a BAFTA Academy Fellowship Award), and three Golden Globes, including the Cecil B. DeMille Award. He gained worldwide fame for playing the role of James Bond in seven feature films between 1962 and 1983.

Connery was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, and raised in a working-class family. He left school at the age of 13 and worked in a variety of jobs before joining the Royal Navy in 1946. He served for three years and was discharged in 1949.

Connery began his acting career in the early 1950s, appearing in small roles in British films and television series. He made his breakthrough role in 1957 when he starred in the war film "Darby O'Gill and the Little People". He followed this with a series of successful films, including "From Russia with Love" (1963), "Goldfinger" (1964), "Thunderball" (1965), and "You Only Live Twice" (1967).

Connery's portrayal of James Bond made him a global icon and helped to define the character for a generation. He was the first actor to play the role, and his performance is still considered one of the best.

Connery continued to act in a wide variety of films after leaving the James Bond franchise. He starred in such films as "The Hill" (1965), "Murder on the Orient Express" (1974), "The Man Who Would Be King" (1975), "The Untouchables" (1987), and "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade" (1989).

In addition to his acting career, Connery was also a producer and director. He produced several films, including "The Wind and the Lion" (1975) and "Robin and Marian" (1976). He also directed one film, "The Great Train Robbery" (1979).

Connery was a recipient of numerous awards and honors, including an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in "The Untouchables" (1987), two BAFTA Awards (one of which was a BAFTA Academy Fellowship Award), and three Golden Globes. He was also awarded a knighthood by Queen Elizabeth II in 2000.

Connery died on October 31, 2020, at the age of 90. He is survived by his second wife, Micheline Roquebrune, and his son, Jason Connery.
