Gonzalo Montiel

Gonzalo Ariel Montiel (born January 1, 1997) is an Argentine professional footballer who plays as a right-back for Sevilla FC and the Argentina national team.

Club career

River Plate

Montiel began his career in the youth ranks of River Plate. He made his professional debut for the club on May 28, 2016, in a 4–1 win over Sarmiento. Montiel quickly established himself as a regular starter for River Plate, and he helped the team win the Copa Argentina in 2016 and the Supercopa Argentina in 2017. In 2018, Montiel was part of the River Plate team that won the Copa Libertadores.

Sevilla FC

In August 2021, Montiel signed a five-year contract with Sevilla FC for a reported fee of €11 million. He made his debut for the club on September 11, 2021, in a 1–1 draw against Elche CF. Montiel has been a regular starter for Sevilla since his arrival, and he has helped the team win the UEFA Europa League in 2022.

International career

Montiel has represented Argentina at the U-20 and U-23 levels. He made his senior debut for the national team on September 7, 2019, in a friendly match against Chile. Montiel was part of the Argentina squad that won the Copa América in 2021. He also played in the 2022 FIFA World Cup, where he scored the winning penalty in the final against France.

Playing style

Montiel is a versatile defender who can play at right-back or center-back. He is known for his tackling, passing, and dribbling skills. Montiel is also a good crosser of the ball.
