Biography
Omar Sy was born on January 20, 1978, in Trappes, Yvelines, France. He is the son of Senegalese immigrants. Sy began his career as a comedian in the early 2000s, appearing on television and radio shows. In 2001, he co-founded the comedy troupe La Bande à Fifi with his friend Fred Testot. The troupe became popular for their sketches and stand-up routines, and they released several albums and DVDs.
In 2011, Sy starred in the film The Intouchables, which became a huge success in France and around the world. The film tells the story of a wealthy quadriplegic man (François Cluzet) who hires a young Senegalese immigrant (Sy) to be his caretaker. The film was praised for its humor, heart, and performances by Sy and Cluzet. Sy won a César Award for Best Actor for his role in the film.
Since the success of The Intouchables, Sy has starred in a number of Hollywood films, including X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014), Jurassic World (2015), and Transformers: The Last Knight (2017). He has also continued to work in French films, such as 20 ans d'écart (2013) and Chocolat (2016).
In addition to his acting career, Sy is also a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador. He has been involved in a number of campaigns to raise awareness about children's rights and to provide aid to children in need.
