Lionel Andrés Messi Cuccittini (born June 24, 1987) is an Argentine professional footballer who plays as a forward for Ligue 1 club Paris Saint-Germain and captains the Argentina national team. Often considered the greatest player of all time, Messi has won a record seven Ballon d'Or awards, a record six European Golden Shoes, and in 2020 was named to the Ballon d'Or Dream Team.

Messi was born in Rosario, Argentina, and began playing football at a young age. He joined the Barcelona youth academy at the age of 13, and made his debut for the club's first team in 2004.
