Early life and career
Sofia Boutella was born on April 3, 1982, in Bab El Oued, Algiers, Algeria. Her father is Algerian and her mother is French. Boutella began dancing at the age of five. She studied classical ballet, jazz, and contemporary dance at the École Nationale Supérieure de Danse de Marseille in France.
After graduating from dance school, Boutella moved to Paris. She began working as a professional dancer, appearing in music videos, commercials, and live shows. In 2002, she joined the hip hop dance company Pockemon Crew. With Pockemon Crew, she toured the world and performed on television shows such as "Star Academy" and "So You Think You Can Dance".
Acting career
In 2007, Boutella made her acting debut in the French film "Azur & Asmar". She went on to appear in a number of other French films, including "StreetDance 2" (2012) and "Kingsman: The Secret Service" (2014).
In 2016, Boutella had her breakthrough role in the American film "Star Trek Beyond". She played Jaylah, an alien warrior who becomes an ally of the Enterprise crew. Boutella's performance in the film was praised by critics, and she received a Saturn Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress.
Since then, Boutella has appeared in a number of other Hollywood films, including "The Mummy" (2017), "Atomic Blonde" (2017), and "Hotel Artemis" (2018). She has also had roles in television series such as "Blindspot" and "The OA".
Personal life
Boutella is fluent in French, English, and Arabic. She is also a trained martial artist. Boutella is currently dating actor Robert Pattinson.
