Salma Hayek

Salma Hayek Pinault (born September 2, 1966) is a Mexican and American actress, producer, and director. She began her career in Mexico, starring in the telenovela Teresa (1989–1991) and the film El Callejón de los Milagros (1995). Hayek came to international attention with her role as Carolina in the 1995 film Desperado, and she went on to star in a number of successful Hollywood films, including Fools Rush In (1997), Dogma (1999), Wild Wild West (1999), Traffic (2000), Frida (2002), Once Upon a Time in Mexico (2003), and Eternals (2021).

Hayek was born in Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz, Mexico. She is the daughter of Diana Jiménez Medina, an opera singer, and Sami Hayek Domínguez, an oil company executive. Hayek has one brother, Sami Hayek. Hayek was raised in a wealthy family and attended Catholic schools. She studied international relations at the Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City, but she dropped out after two years to pursue a career in acting.

Hayek began her acting career in Mexico in the early 1990s. She starred in the telenovela Teresa (1989–1991), which was a major success in Mexico and Latin America. Hayek also starred in a number of Mexican films, including El Callejón de los Milagros (1995).
