Antonia Collette-Galafassi (born 1 November 1972) is an Australian actress. She has received various accolades, including an Academy Award nomination, a Golden Globe Award, and two Primetime Emmy Awards.
Collette began her acting career in the early 1990s, with a leading role in the film Muriel's Wedding (1994). She gained international recognition for her performances in the films The Sixth Sense (1999), Little Miss Sunshine (2006), and Hereditary (2018). Collette has also had a successful career in television, starring in the series United States of Tara (2009–2011), The Slap (2015), and Wanderlust (2018).
Collette was born in Sydney, Australia, to Judy (née Cook) and Bob Collette. Her father was a truck driver and her mother was a nurse. Collette has two older siblings, a brother and a sister. She attended the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) in Sydney, where she graduated in 1991.
Collette's acting career began in the early 1990s, with small roles in television shows and films. She made her feature film debut in the 1992 film Spotswood. In 1994, she starred in the critically acclaimed film Muriel's Wedding, which earned her a Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy.
Collette gained international recognition for her performance in the 1999 film The Sixth Sense. She played Lynn Sear, the mother of a young boy who sees dead people. Collette's performance was praised by critics, and she received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress.
Collette continued to star in films throughout the 2000s, including Little Miss Sunshine (2006), In Her Shoes (2005), and The Hours (2002). In 2009, she began starring in the Showtime series United States of Tara, in which she played a woman with dissociative identity disorder. Collette received a Golden Globe Award for her performance in the series.
Collette has continued to work in both film and television in recent years. She starred in the films Hereditary (2018), Velvet Buzzsaw (2019), and I'm Thinking of Ending Things (2020). She also had a recurring role in the Netflix series The Crown (2020).
Collette is married to musician Dave Galafassi. They have two children together.
