Early life and education

Ruth Negga was born in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to an Irish mother and an Ethiopian father. She moved to Ireland with her family when she was four years old. She attended the Samuel Beckett Centre in Trinity College Dublin, where she studied acting.

Career

Negga began her acting career in 2004, appearing in the Irish soap opera Fair City. She went on to appear in a number of stage productions, including Titus Andronicus (2006), The Crucible (2008), and Hamlet (2010).

In 2011, Negga made her film debut in the drama Breakfast on Pluto. She went on to appear in a number of other films, including 12 Years a Slave (2013), The Secret Scripture (2016), and Loving (2016).

In 2016, Negga received an Oscar nomination for Best Actress for her performance in Loving. She also won a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama for the same role.

In 2017, Negga starred in the television series Preacher. She also appeared in the film Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

In 2019, Negga starred in the television series Passing. She also appeared in the film Ad Astra.

Personal life

Negga is married to actor Dominic Cooper. They have one child together.
