Roseanne Cherrie Barr (born November 3, 1952) is a controversial American actress, comedian, writer, television producer, and director. She is best known for her role as Roseanne Conner in the ABC sitcom Roseanne (1988–1997; 2018), for which she received a Golden Globe Award in 1993, and for her subsequent reboot series The Conners (2018–present). Barr has also starred in several films, including She-Devil (1989), A League of Their Own (1992), Meet Wally Sparks (1997), and Looking for Lenny (1998).

Early Life and Career

Roseanne Barr was born on November 3, 1952, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Her father, Jerome Barr, was a salesman, and her mother, Helen Barr, was a housewife. Barr was raised in a Jewish family and attended Hebrew school. She dropped out of high school at the age of 16 and worked a variety of jobs before starting her career as a stand-up comedian in 1980.

Stand-up Comedy

Barr's stand-up comedy routines often focused on her own life experiences and were known for their humor. She quickly gained popularity and appeared on several television shows, including The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson, Late Night with David Letterman, and Saturday Night Live. In 1994, she was criticized for making Islamophobic remarks in an interview. In 2018, she was fired from the reboot of her sitcom Roseanne after she posted a racist tweet about former White House advisor Valerie Jarrett.

Personal Life

Barr has been married three times. Her first marriage was to Bill Pentland from 1974 to 1990. Her second marriage was to Tom Arnold from 1990 to 1994. Her third marriage was to Ben Thomas from 1995 to 2002. She has five children: Brandi, Jessica, Jennifer, Jake, and Buck.
