Hugh Michael Jackman (born October 12, 1968) is an Australian actor, singer, and producer. He is best known for his roles as Wolverine in the X-Men film series, Jean Valjean in the musical Les Misérables, and P.T. Barnum in the musical The Greatest Showman.

Jackman was born in Sydney, Australia, to Christopher John Jackman, an accountant, and Grace McNeil, a homemaker. He has two older brothers, Ian and Ralph. Jackman attended Knox Grammar School in Sydney and graduated from the University of Technology, Sydney, with a degree in communications.

Jackman began his acting career in the early 1990s, appearing in Australian television shows such as Correlli and Blue Heelers. He made his film debut in the 1994 Australian film Paperback Hero.

Jackman's breakthrough role came in 2000, when he was cast as Wolverine in the superhero film X-Men. He reprised the role in eight subsequent X-Men films, making him the longest-serving live-action superhero actor.
