Cheb Akil was born in Batna, Algeria, in 1969. He began his musical career in the early 1980s, singing in local clubs and bars. In 1985, he released his debut album, "Ma Ykoun Gheir," which was a commercial success in Algeria.
Rise to fame
Cheb Akil's breakthrough came in 1990 with the release of his album "Ya Rayah." The album was a huge hit in Algeria and across the Arab world, selling over 1 million copies. Cheb Akil became one of the most popular singers in the region and was dubbed the "King of Raï."
