Nicole Camille Richie (born September 21, 1981) is an American television personality, socialite, actress, singer, designer, and author. She is the daughter of singer Lionel Richie and Brenda Harvey. Richie rose to fame in the early 2000s as a cast member of the reality television series The Simple Life with Paris Hilton. Since then, she has appeared in several films and television shows, and has launched her own fashion line, House of Harlow 1960.

Early Life

Nicole Richie was born in Berkeley, California, to Lionel Richie and Brenda Harvey. Her parents divorced when she was two years old, and she was raised by her father and stepmother, Diane Alexander. Richie has a younger sister, Sofia Richie, and an older brother, Miles Richie.

Richie attended Montclair College Preparatory School in Van Nuys, California, but dropped out at the age of 16. She then moved to New York City to pursue a career in modeling.

Career

Richie's career began in 2003, when she was cast in the reality television series The Simple Life with Paris Hilton. The show followed the two wealthy young women as they lived in a rural town in Arkansas and worked at various jobs. The Simple Life was a ratings success, and Richie and Hilton became household names.

After The Simple Life, Richie went on to appear in several films and television shows, including Kids in America (2005), The House Bunny (2008), and Fashion Star (2012). She also launched her own fashion line, House of Harlow 1960, in 2008.

Richie has also written two books, The Truth About Diamonds (2005) and Priceless (2010).

Personal Life

In 2006, Richie began dating Good Charlotte frontman Joel Madden. The couple had two children together, a daughter named Harlow Winter Kate Madden (born January 11, 2008) and a son named Sparrow James Midnight Madden (born September 9, 2009). Richie and Madden married in December 2010.

Richie has been open about her struggles with addiction and eating disorders. She has also been involved in several慈善事業, including the Richie Sambora Foundation, which provides music education to underprivileged children.
