Amel Bent
Amel Bent Bachir (born June 21, 1985) is a French singer and songwriter. She rose to fame in 2004 after winning the second season of the French version of Pop Idol, Nouvelle Star. Since then, she has released six studio albums, all of which have been certified platinum or higher in France. She has also won numerous awards, including two NRJ Music Awards and a Victoire de la Musique.
Bent was born and raised in Paris, France, to Algerian parents. She began singing at a young age and was influenced by a variety of musical genres, including R&B, soul, and pop. She auditioned for Nouvelle Star in 2004 and quickly became a fan favorite. She won the competition and was signed to a record deal with Universal Music France.
Bent's debut album, Un Jour d'été, was released in 2004 and was a commercial success, selling over 600,000 copies in France. The album spawned the hit singles "Ma Philosophie" and "Le Droit à l'erreur". Her second album, À 20 ans, was released in 2007 and was also a commercial success, selling over 400,000 copies in France. The album spawned the hit singles "Nouveau Français" and "Tu n'es plus là".
Bent's third album, Où je vais, was released in 2009 and was a commercial success, selling over 300,000 copies in France. The album spawned the hit singles "Où je vais" and "Je reste seule". Her fourth album, Délit mineur, was released in 2011 and was a commercial success, selling over 200,000 copies in France. The album spawned the hit singles "Délit mineur" and "Je me suis aimer".
Bent's fifth album, Instinct, was released in 2014 and was a commercial success, selling over 100,000 copies in France. The album spawned the hit singles "Regarde-moi" and "Le chant des colombes". Her sixth album, Vivante, was released in 2019 and was a commercial success, selling over 50,000 copies in France. The album spawned the hit singles "Jusqu'au bout" and "Si on te demande".
Bent has also appeared in several films and television shows. She made her film debut in the 2006 film Dikkenek. She has also appeared in the television shows Nouvelle Star, Danse avec les stars, and The Voice: la plus belle voix.
Bent is a vocal advocate for women's rights and gender equality. She has spoken out against domestic violence and sexual harassment. She is also a supporter of the LGBT community.
Bent is married to Patrick Antonelli, a businessman. They have two children together.
