Bio:
Joel Campbell is a Costa Rican professional footballer who plays as a forward for Club León, on loan from Frosinone. He is also a member of the Costa Rica national team.
Campbell began his career at Deportivo Saprissa, where he won three league titles. In 2011, he moved to Arsenal, but was loaned out to Lorient, Betis, and Olympiacos before making his Arsenal debut in 2014. He joined Sporting CP in 2015, and Frosinone in 2018.
Campbell made his international debut for Costa Rica in 2011, and has since represented his country at the 2014 and 2018 FIFA World Cups, as well as the 2011, 2013, and 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cups. He was part of the Costa Rican team that won the 2013 Gold Cup, and was named the tournament's Best Young Player.
Campbell is a versatile player who can play anywhere across the front line. He is known for his pace, dribbling skills, and ability to score goals. He is also a good passer and can create chances for his teammates.
Personal life:
Campbell is married to Maria Fernanda Cascante, and they have two children together. He is a devout Christian, and often uses his platform to speak out against racism and discrimination.
Controversies:
In 2014, Campbell was involved in a car accident in Costa Rica. He was driving under the influence of alcohol, and was charged with reckless driving. He was later fined and his driving license was suspended.
In 2016, Campbell was accused of sexual assault by a woman in London. He denied the allegations, and no charges were filed.
