Chris Noth (born November 13, 1954) is an American actor. He is known for his roles as Detective Mike Logan on Law & Order and its spin-off Law & Order: Criminal Intent, and as Mr. Big on the HBO series Sex and the City and its sequel films.
Noth was born in Madison, Wisconsin, and raised in Stamford, Connecticut. He graduated from Boston University in 1978 with a degree in theater. After graduation, he moved to New York City and began appearing in stage productions.
In 1986, Noth made his film debut in the movie Baby Boom. He went on to appear in a number of other films, including Hill Street Blues (1987), The Prince of Tides (1991), and Cast Away (2000).
In 1990, Noth began playing the role of Detective Mike Logan on Law & Order. He remained on the show until 1995, when he left to star in his own spin-off series, Law & Order: Criminal Intent. Noth played Logan on Criminal Intent until 2005.
In 1998, Noth began playing the role of Mr. Big on Sex and the City. The show was a critical and commercial success, and Noth gained international fame for his role as the enigmatic and wealthy businessman. Sex and the City ended in 2004, but Noth reprised the role of Mr. Big in the sequel films Sex and the City: The Movie (2008) and Sex and the City 2 (2010).
In addition to his work on television and film, Noth has also appeared in a number of stage productions. He made his Broadway debut in 1982 in the play Curse of the Starving Class. He has also appeared in the plays Hamlet (1990), A Streetcar Named Desire (1992), and That Championship Season (2001).
Noth has received a number of awards for his work, including a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Television Series - Drama for his role on Law & Order in 1995. He has also been nominated for an Emmy Award and a Screen Actors Guild Award.
Noth is married to actress Tara Wilson. They have two children together.
