Biography
Maxi Priest is a British reggae singer, songwriter, and musician. He is best known for his hit singles "Close to You", "Wild World", and "Set the Night to Music", all of which reached the top ten on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the United States.
Priest was born in Lewisham, London, England, to Jamaican parents. He began singing in church at a young age, and later joined a local reggae band called Saxon Sound System. In 1984, he released his debut album, "You're All That Matter", which was a commercial success in the United Kingdom.
In 1986, Priest signed with Charisma Records and released his second album, "Intensified". The album was a critical and commercial success, and spawned the hit singles "Close to You" and "Wild World". In 1988, Priest released his third album, "Maxi", which was also a commercial success.
In 1990, Priest signed with Epic Records and released his fourth album, "Bonafide". The album was a critical and commercial success, and spawned the hit singles "Set the Night to Music" and "Halfway Home". In 1992, Priest released his fifth album, "Fe Real", which was also a commercial success.
In 1994, Priest left Epic Records and signed with Island Records. He released his sixth album, "Man with the Roots", in 1995. The album was a critical and commercial success, and spawned the hit single "Housecall". In 1997, Priest released his seventh album, "Genetically Blessed", which was also a commercial success.
