Henrikh Mkhitaryan (Armenian: Հենրիխ Մխիթարյան, pronounced [hɛnˈrikʰ məχitʰɑˈɾjɑn]; born 21 January 1989) is an Armenian professional footballer who plays as an attacking midfielder or winger for Serie A club Inter Milan and the Armenia national team.
Mkhitaryan began his professional career with Pyunik in the Armenian Premier League, where he won three league titles and two Armenian Cups. In 2009, he moved to Metalurh Donetsk in the Ukrainian Premier League. After two seasons in Ukraine, he joined Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga, where he won the DFB-Pokal in 2012. In 2013, he moved to Manchester United in the Premier League. After two seasons in England, he joined Arsenal in 2018. In 2019, he was loaned to Roma in the Serie A. In 2020, he joined Roma on a permanent deal. In 2022, he joined Inter Milan.
Mkhitaryan has made 95 appearances for the Armenia national team, scoring 29 goals. He is the all-time top scorer for Armenia.
Mkhitaryan is known for his dribbling skills, passing ability, and goalscoring prowess. He has been praised for his creativity and ability to create chances for his teammates. He has also been criticized for his inconsistency and his lack of defensive contribution.
Mkhitaryan has won numerous individual awards, including the Armenian Footballer of the Year award four times. He was also named the Bundesliga Player of the Year in 2012.
Personal life
Mkhitaryan was born in Yerevan, Armenia. His father, Hamlet Mkhitaryan, was a professional footballer who played for Ararat Yerevan and the Armenia national team. His mother, Marina Taschyan, was a volleyball player. Mkhitaryan has two sisters, Monica and Liana.
Mkhitaryan is married to Betty Vardanyan. The couple have two children, a son named Hamlet and a daughter named Maya.
Mkhitaryan is a devout Christian. He has a tattoo of a cross on his right wrist. He also has a tattoo of the Armenian national coat of arms on his left shoulder.
Mkhitaryan is fluent in Armenian, Russian, English, German, and Italian. He is also a fan of chess and poker.
