Lucas Nicolás Alario (born 8 October 1992) is an Argentine professional footballer who plays as a striker for Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt and the Argentina national team.
Club career Early career Alario began his career with Club Atlético River Plate in 2011. He made his professional debut on 30 November 2013, in a 3–0 victory over CA Colón. He scored his first goal for the club on 23 February 2014, in a 2–1 victory over CA Belgrano.
River Plate Alario was a key member of the River Plate team that won the 2014 Copa Sudamericana and the 2014 Recopa Sudamericana. He also played a role in the club's victory in the 2015 Copa Libertadores.
Bayer Leverkusen In July 2017, Alario joined Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen for a fee of €18 million. He made his debut for the club on 19 August 2017, in a 3–1 victory over Hertha BSC. He scored his first goal for the club on 26 August 2017, in a 2–0 victory over 1. FC Köln.
Alario was a regular starter for Leverkusen in the 2017–18 season, scoring 11 goals in 34 appearances. He also helped the club reach the final of the DFB-Pokal, where they lost 2–0 to Bayern Munich.
Eintracht Frankfurt In July 2022, Alario joined Eintracht Frankfurt on a free transfer. He made his debut for the club on 5 August 2022, in a 4–0 victory over FC Magdeburg in the DFB-Pokal. He scored his first goal for the club on 13 August 2022, in a 4–2 victory over FC Bayern Munich in the DFL-Supercup.
International career Alario has represented Argentina at various youth levels. He was a member of the Argentina team that won the 2011 FIFA U-20 World Cup.
He made his senior debut for Argentina on 23 September 2016, in a 1–0 victory over Uruguay in a 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier. He scored his first goal for the national team on 11 October 2016, in a 3–0 victory over Peru in a World Cup qualifier.
Alario was part of the Argentina squad that reached the final of the 2016 Copa América Centenario, where they lost 4–2 on penalties to Chile. He also represented Argentina at the 2018 FIFA World Cup, where they were eliminated in the round of 16 by eventual champions France.
Style of play Alario is a versatile forward who can play as a centre-forward or as a second striker. He is a good finisher and has a strong aerial presence. He is also a hard worker and is always willing to press the opposition.
Personal life Alario is married to María Agustina Vivero. They have two children together, a son and a daughter.
