Jerome Agyenim Boateng (born 3 September 1988) is a professional footballer who plays as a center back who is a free agent.
A versatile defender, he can also play as a right back or defensive midfielder. Boateng began his career at Hertha BSC, then moved to Manchester City and Hamburger SV, before joining Bayern Munich in 2011. With Bayern, he has won nine Bundesliga titles, two UEFA Champions Leagues, two UEFA SuperCups, and two FIFA Club World Cups.
Boateng was part of the German team that won the 2014 FIFA World Cup, and he also represented his country at the 2010 and 2018 World Cups, as well as the 2012 and 2016 UEFA European Championships.
Background and Personal Life
Jerome Boateng was born in Berlin, West Germany to a Ghanaian father and a German mother. He grew up in the city's Wedding district, which is known for its diverse population. Boateng attended the Kurt-Schumacher-Grundschule and the Ernst-Reuter-Oberschule.
Boateng began his football career at the age of six, playing for local club BSC Rehberge. He moved to TeBe Berlin in 1995, and then to Hertha BSC in 2002.

Hertha BSC
Boateng made his professional debut for Hertha BSC in the Bundesliga on 31 January 2007, at the age of 18. He quickly established himself as a regular in the team, and helped Hertha to a sixth-place finish in the 2008-09 season.
Manchester City
In June 2009, Boateng transferred to Manchester City for a fee of £10.5 million. He made his debut for the club in the UEFA Europa League on 20 August 2009. Boateng struggled to hold down a regular place in the City team, and he was loaned to Hamburger SV in January 2010.
Hamburger SV
Boateng returned to Germany in January 2010, joining Hamburger SV on loan until the end of the season. He made 15 appearances for Hamburg, and helped the team to a seventh-place finish in the Bundesliga.
Bayern Munich
In July 2011, Boateng signed a four-year contract with Bayern Munich for a fee of €13.5 million. He made his debut for the club in the Bundesliga on 16 September 2011, and quickly established himself as a regular in the team. Boateng has won nine Bundesliga titles, two UEFA Champions Leagues, two UEFA SuperCups, and two FIFA Club World Cups with Bayern.
International Career
Boateng made his debut for the Germany national team on 10 October 2009, in a friendly match against Russia. He was part of the German team that won the 2014 FIFA World Cup, and he also represented his country at the 2010 and 2018 World Cups, as well as the 2012 and 2016 UEFA European Championships.
Boateng has made over 70 appearances for Germany, and he has scored one goal. He is known for his strength, speed, and tackling ability.
