Early life and education

Sandra Oh was born in Nepean, Ontario, to South Korean immigrants. She has two younger sisters. Oh began acting in high school, and she went on to study drama at the National Theatre School of Canada in Montreal.

Career

Oh's early acting roles included appearances in television shows such as The Diary of Evelyn Lau and Kung Fu: The Legend Continues. In 1996, she had a supporting role in the film Double Happiness, which was directed by Mina Shum. Oh's breakout role came in 2005, when she began playing Cristina Yang on the ABC medical drama Grey's Anatomy. Oh remained on the show for ten seasons, and she received numerous awards for her performance, including a Golden Globe Award and a Screen Actors Guild Award.

In addition to her work on Grey's Anatomy, Oh has appeared in a number of other films and television shows, including The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement (2004), Under the Tuscan Sun (2003), and Killing Eve (2018-2022). Oh has also done voice work for animated films such as The Secret Life of Pets (2016) and Raya and the Last Dragon (2021).

Personal life

Oh is married to Alexander Payne, a film director. They have no children. Oh is a vocal advocate for diversity and inclusion in the entertainment industry.
