Marco Reus
Marco Reus (born 31 May 1989) is a German professional footballer who plays for Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund and the Germany national team as a winger.
Reus began his career at Borussia Dortmund, where he won the Bundesliga title in 2011 and 2012. He then moved to Borussia Mönchengladbach, where he spent three seasons before returning to Dortmund in 2016. Since his return, he has won the DFB-Pokal in 2017 and 2021, the DFL-Supercup in 2019, and the Bundesliga title again in 2021.
Reus has made over 100 appearances for the Germany national team, scoring 29 goals. He was part of the team that won the 2014 FIFA World Cup and the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup.
Personal life
Reus was born in Dortmund, West Germany. His father, Thomas, was a professional footballer who played for Borussia Dortmund and Rot-Weiß Ahlen. His mother, Manuela, was a homemaker. Reus has two older sisters, Yvonne and Melanie.
Reus is married to Scarlett Gartmann, a German model. They have two children together, a daughter named Emma (born 2019) and a son named Noah (born 2021).
Club career
Borussia Dortmund
Reus began his career at Borussia Dortmund, where he played for the youth teams from 2006 to 2009. He made his professional debut for the club in the Bundesliga on 9 September 2009, coming on as a substitute in a 2-1 win against Bayer Leverkusen. He scored his first goal for the club on 28 November 2009, in a 3-1 win against VfL Bochum.
In the 2010-11 season, Reus became a regular starter for Borussia Dortmund. He scored 11 goals in 33 league appearances, helping the club to win the Bundesliga title. He also scored two goals in the club's victory in the DFB-Pokal final.
In the 2011-12 season, Reus continued to be a key player for Borussia Dortmund. He scored 18 goals in 36 league appearances, helping the club to retain the Bundesliga title. He also scored two goals in the club's victory in the DFL-Supercup.
Borussia Mönchengladbach
In the summer of 2012, Reus moved to Borussia Mönchengladbach for a fee of €17.5 million. He scored 10 goals in 31 league appearances in his first season at the club.
In the 2013-14 season, Reus was one of the most outstanding players in the Bundesliga. He scored 16 goals in 32 league appearances, helping Borussia Mönchengladbach to finish third in the table. He was also named the Bundesliga Player of the Year.
In the 2014-15 season, Reus continued to be a key player for Borussia Mönchengladbach. He scored 13 goals in 32 league appearances, helping the club to finish fourth in the table. He also helped the club to reach the semi-finals of the DFB-Pokal.
Return to Borussia Dortmund
In the summer of 2016, Reus returned to Borussia Dortmund for a fee of €25 million. He scored 15 goals in 33 league appearances in his first season back at the club. He also helped the club to win the DFB-Pokal.
In the 2017-18 season, Reus was hampered by injuries. He only made 17 league appearances, scoring seven goals.
In the 2018-19 season, Reus returned to form. He scored 17 goals in 33 league appearances, helping Borussia Dortmund to finish second in the table. He also helped the club to win the DFL-Supercup.
In the 2019-20 season, Reus was again hampered by injuries. He only made 19 league appearances, scoring 11 goals.
In the 2020-21 season, Reus was once again a key player for Borussia Dortmund. He scored 11 goals in 32 league appearances, helping the club to win the Bundesliga title. He also helped the club to win the DFB-Pokal.
International career
Reus has made over 100 appearances for the Germany national team, scoring 29 goals. He made his debut for the team on 11 October 2011, in a 3-0 win against Belgium. He scored his first goal for the team on 29 May 2013, in a 3-3 draw against Ecuador.
Reus was part of the Germany squad that won the 2014 FIFA World Cup. He played in six of the team's seven matches at the tournament, scoring one goal. He was also part of the Germany squad that won the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup. He played in four of the team's five matches at the tournament, scoring two goals.
Reus has also represented Germany at the 2012 Summer Olympics and the 2018 UEFA Nations League.
