Domagoj Vida (pronounced [dǒmaɡojʋǐːda]; born 29 April 1989) is a Croatian professional footballer who plays as a centre-back for Greek club AEK Athens and the Croatia national team.
Club career
Vida started his career at the age of 15 at Osijek in the Croatian First Football League. He played there for four seasons, making 76 appearances and scoring one goal. In 2010, he joined Bayer Leverkusen of the Bundesliga, but he only played 14 games for the club's reserve team.
In 2011, Vida returned to Croatia and signed for Dinamo Zagreb. He quickly established himself as a key player for the club, helping them win the Croatian First Football League title in 2011–12 and 2012–13. He also made 16 appearances in the UEFA Champions League during his time at Dinamo Zagreb.
In 2013, Vida moved to Dynamo Kyiv of the Ukrainian Premier League. He spent five seasons at the club, making 128 appearances and scoring nine goals. He helped Dynamo Kyiv win the Ukrainian Premier League title in 2014–15 and 2015–16.
In 2018, Vida joined Beşiktaş of the Turkish Süper Lig. He made 102 appearances and scored nine goals for the club. He helped Beşiktaş win the Turkish Süper Lig title in 2020–21.
In 2022, Vida joined AEK Athens of the Greek Super League. He has made 11 appearances and scored one goal for the club.
International career
Vida made his debut for the Croatia national team in 2010. He has made 104 appearances for the team and scored four goals. He has represented Croatia at the 2014 FIFA World Cup, 2018 FIFA World Cup, and 2020 UEFA European Championship.
Personal life
Vida is married to Ivana Vida. They have two children together, a son named David and a daughter named Ema.
