Eusébio
Eusébio da Silva Ferreira (25 January 1942 – 5 January 2014), known as Eusébio, was a Portuguese professional footballer who played as a forward. A prolific goalscorer, he is often regarded as one of the greatest players of all time.
Eusébio was born in the Portuguese colony of Lourenço Marques (now Maputo), Mozambique, and began his career with local club Sporting Lourenço Marques. In 1960, he moved to Portugal to join Benfica, where he would spend the majority of his career. With Benfica, Eusébio won 11 Primeira Liga titles, five Taça de Portugal titles, and one European Cup. He was also the top scorer in the Primeira Liga seven times and the European Cup four times.
Eusébio made his international debut for Portugal in 1961 and went on to score 41 goals in 64 appearances. He was a key member of the Portugal team that reached the semi-finals of the 1966 FIFA World Cup, where he was named the tournament's best player. He also represented Portugal at the 1962 FIFA World Cup and the 1970 FIFA World Cup.
Eusébio retired from football in 1978 and was inducted into the FIFA World Cup Dream Team in 2002. He died in Lisbon, Portugal, on 5 January 2014, at the age of 71.
